I’m not sure if I have mentioned it here before but most years, a word comes to mind at the turning of year. When one comes to a close and the chance of new beginnings, new mindsets and a fresh start is on the horizon. I used to go into a New Year with all of the usual resolutions, less of this and more of that, and the usual ways to punish my mind and body into feeling something it “should” be and admonishing myself for what I supposedly lacked for getting there. But a few years ago something changed and with this shift I have found some peace. Instead of creating a list of resolutions, a word would come into focus, and with it some guiding principles to lead me into the next chapter, and perhaps beyond.
As you may know, this year we have spent Christmas in Southern Spain with my family and are spending most of January at our home in Catalonia. And with the distance from the UK and work, it has brought some very welcome headspace. On the whole last year was a real success for the LF studio and team, and for that I am incredibly grateful, but it has come at a personal cost. And some time out to reset and rest and evaluate is imperative. Although my rest might involve pruning Olive trees - I’m not very good at sitting still!
The word that has kept springing to mind is ‘Enough.’ And I’d really love for that not to land in a grumpy sounding way, like Jim interpreted it. Enough in the sense of I already do enough, let’s leave some in the tank. Enough in the sense that, the pace and scale of the business is enough to help support 5 individuals on their own journeys. That perhaps I need to trust that we do enough, and that there is more time for me to develop some side practices. That there is enough time for a longer walk and that my head and heart has enough time to restore.
However you start the New Year, I hope it starts gently for you. There’s no need to rush, whilst everything outside is saying rest and go slowly.
